Description
Confidence in Conversations with Patrons Impacted by Gambling Harm is an adaptation of Lifeline Canberra's Dealing with People in Difficult Situations course, and has been specifically developed for venue staff who find themselves in situations where effective communication is required.
The program aims to enhance confidence in engaging with individuals affected by gambling harm, fostering the ability to identify the necessity for support, select suitable responses and make effective referrals.
Course topics
This course covers the following topics:
- Conversations and communication
- Limits and boundary setting
- Recognise, respond and refer patrons
- Self Awareness, care and compassion
Key outcomes
The key outcomes of this course are:
- Enhanced communication skills with patrons adversely affected by gambling harm
- Increased levels of confidence in conversations with individuals affected by gambling harm
- Improved ability to recognise and address individuals that may be struggling
- Acquire knowledge and skills on how and when to refer individuals to specialised support services and resources
- Develop strategies for setting and maintaining appropriate boundaries
- Self-care and self-reflection practices
