“Women of spirit are often hidden in our community, quietly working away and giving their time to lift-up others and support vital causes. For this reason, we are asking you to nominate a woman who inspires you – help us uncover women of spirit in our community so we can recognise their efforts and tell their important and inspiring stories,” Lifeline Canberra CEO, Ms Carrie-Ann Leeson said.
Last year’s event highlighted the inspiring efforts of 11 local women, along with the 200 guests were inspired and moved by Gwen Cherne, who shared her own story after losing her husband SGT Peter J Cafe to suicide in February 2017.
Clare Sheehan received the Rising Women of Spirit Award and Yvonne Anthoney, founder of the Dainere’s Rainbow Brain Tumour Research Fund was named the recipient of the Women of Spirit Award. Both women exemplified the ethos of the Women of Spirit awards during their speeches, describing their strength and determination in the face of immense personal struggles.
The 2019 Women of Spirit Awards are proudly sponsored by Icon Water, Club Lime and the Canberra Outlet Centre.
“Icon Water are proud supporters of the Canberra community and Lifeline Canberra and we are grateful for their ongoing support,” Carrie said, “and we are excited to announce our partnership with Club Lime and the Canberra Outlet Centre to bring the Women of Spirit Awards to our community.”
“The 2019 Women of Spirit nominations are open, we ask everyone in the Canberra community to look around you and identify a woman that inspires you.”
