Held at Canberra’s iconic and scenic Pialligo Estate Winery, the Canberra Women in Business Awards recognised women who are going above and beyond in their chosen fields. The public sector award recognises extensive community contribution.
Accepting the award, Carrie Leeson said she was humbled by the award and grateful that it could shine a light on the amazing work she and her team — “the best team”, as Leeson refers to them — do every day to support the Canberra community.
“Thank you to CWB for recognising Community Sector CEO’s in the CWB Business Awards. Lifeline Canberra is 4% government funded. The majority of our income for the services we provide to over 35,000 Canberrans annually is generated through our own commercial operations. It’s an efficiently run business with a community heart.”
“Having run my own company in the private sector prior to its sale I can say that there are many challenges that exist in the not-for-profit sector requiring a strategic business approach.
In addition to sustainability and the bottom line, often community focused organisations face highly confronting content, as well as issues such around skill retention and funding relevance.”
